Green Day Musical American Idiot to Play Broadway's St. James Theatre

By Dan Bacalzo • Jan 5, 2010 • New York City
The new musical American Idiot -- a stage version of rock group Green Day's album -- will play Broadway's St. James Theatre beginning March 24, with an opening set for April 20. The show is co-authored and directed by Tony Award winner Michael Mayer, with choreography by Steven Hoggett. Casting will be announced at a later date.

The musical, which is also written by Green Day's Billie Joe Armstrong, follows a group of working-class characters from the suburbs to the city to the Middle East as they seek redemption in a world filled with frustration. It features songs from both American Idiot and the group's new album 21st Century Breakdown. The production previously played a record-breaking run at Berkeley Repertory Theatre.

The creative team will include Tom Kitt (music supervisor, orchestrator and music arranger), Christine Jones (scenic design), Andrea Lauer (costume design), Kevin Adams (lighting design), Brian Ronan (sound design), and Darrel Maloney (video design).
