Cyrilla Baer, Bruce Coughln, Andrew Nolen et al. Set for Prairie Dogs Reading

Casting has been announced for The Coterie’s concert reading of Rachel Peters and Royce Vavrek’s comic opera Prairie Dogs, to be held on January 18 at 7pm at A.R.T./New York. Emma Griffin will direct the performance.

The piece is the second in a triptych of operas that constitute The Wild Beast of the Bungalow and focuses on an eleven-year-old girl who is struggling to make things right in her family in a town overrun by prairie dogs. The company will feature Cyrilla Baer (Mother), Eric S. Brenner (Grandma/Grandpa), and Andrew Nolen (Father) as well as David Korn, Amanda Pabyan, and Jendi Tarde. Tony Award-winner Bruce Coughlin will also make a special appearance, playing the ukulele.

Peters’ other works include Stretch (a fantasia), Only Children, Mermaid in the Jar, Food of Love, Dark Fancies and The 52nd Annual Davenport Family Clan X-mas Spectacular. Vavrek has has contributed libretti for David T. Little’s Dog Days, Kristin Hevner’s Bully Pulpit, Jeff Myers’ The Hunger Art, and Jay Anthony Gach’s Nora at the Altar-Rail, among others.
