A roundtable discussion with playwrights John Guare, Suzan-Lori Parks, and Diana Son on Thursday, February 2 will kick off the New School’s Spring 2006 Performing Arts Programs. The event, which will take place at the Tishman Auditorium, marks the school’s first collaboration with The Public Theater; it will be moderated by Oskar Eustis, the theater’s artistic director.

From Feburary 16 through April 29, The New School for Drama will present Random Acts: A One-Act Play Festival at 151 Bank Street. This free festival will feature 30 works by such playwrights as John Patrick Shanley, Christopher Durang, Lynn Nottage, David Ives, Mary Zimmerman, and A.R. Gurney.

On March 9, The New School will host another Public Theater roundtable, The Public Theater Goes to War, with panelists including playwrights Jessica Hagedorn and Brett C. Leonard. On March 28, Terrence McNally will moderate a special discussion titled Writers of the Storm: Fake News and Public Decency in the Age of Terror.

Other upcoming New School events include a production of Witold Gombrowicz’s Operetta at La MaMa (March 9-11); The Odets Project, a multimedia production exploring the life of the late, great playwright (April 20-21); and a spring dance performance at the Ailey Citigroup Center (May 5-6).
