Judy Kuhn will play the role of Marian Halcombe in the Broadway production of Sir Andrew Lloyd Webber’s The Woman in White from February 14 through March 26 while star Maria Friedman undergoes further treatment for breast cancer.

Friedman was originally diagnosed with the disease in early November and has since taken two short leaves of absence from the show. During her previous absences, Marian was played by understudy Lisa Bresica, who has also been performing the role in Wednesday and Saturday matinees. Friedman is expected to return to the show on March 28.

Kuhn is a three-time Tony Award nominee for her work in Les Misérables, Chess and She Loves Me. Her other Broadway credits include Rags, The Mystery of Edwin Drood, and Two Shakespearean Actors. She won an Obie Award for Eli’s Comin’, a musical based on the songs of Laura Nyro.

Directed by Trevor Nunn, The Woman in White also stars Michael Ball, Angela Christian, Jill Paice, Walter Charles, and Ron Bohmer. The show has music by Lloyd Webber and lyrics by David Zippel; it is based on Wilkie Collins’ classic novel of the same title.
