Norbert Leo Butz, Jeremy Dobrish, David Josefsberg, et al. Set for SOPAC’s 2010-2011 Season

The South Orange Performing Arts Center (SOPAC) has announced its 2010-2011 theater season, which will include a one-night-only performance by Tony Award winner Norbert Leo Butz. The concert, Norbert Leo Butz & Friends, will be offered on November 18 and feature a mixture of Broadway show tunes and Southern roots music.

SOPAC is currently presenting the revue Menopause The Musical — which finds the comedy in hot flashes, memory loss, mood swings, wrinkles, night sweats and eating binges — through October 31.

At the end of the season, the venue will present the world premiere of Rated P (May 5-8), a sketch comedy show about parenthood. Jeremy Dobrish will direct the piece, which has book and lyrics by Sandy Rustin and music and lyrics by Dan Lipton and David Rossmer. The company will feature Courtney Balan, David Josefsberg, Charlie Pollock, and Joanna Young.

Also on the venue’s schedule are Ben H. Winters’ celebration of Hanukkah, A Great Big Miracle (December 5); James Braly’s dissection of his marriage: Life in a Marital Institution (December 10); Red (March 19-20), a tribute to Red Skelton performed by Tom Mullica; and a concert on March 25 by Jil Aigrot, who provided the vocals for Edith Piaf in the film La Vie En Rose.

In addition, the Seton Hall Arts Council will present The Robber Bridegroom (February 18-27), Alfred Uhry and Robert Waldman’s musical adaptation of stories by Eudora Whelty; and Moliere’s comedy about religious hypocriscy, Tartuffe (April 1-10).

Family programming at SOPAC will include the Omaha Theater Company’s production of If You Give a Cat a Cupcake (February 6), as well as its interpretation of three classic stories by Mercer Mayer to be offered on March 6; and Hudson Vagabond Puppets’ Butterfly: The Story of a Life Cycle (May 1).
