Adam Shankman will direct a new version of The Nutcracker, to be written by Darren Lemke, according to Deadline.com.
The film, to be released in 2013, will be based on the original 1815 book by E.T.A. Hoffman, about a young girl and a wooden toy soldier who comes alive and leads her on an adventure.
Shankman recently directed the film version of the Broadway musical, Rock of Ages, and also directed the film version of Hairspray. He was also a judge on FOX’s So You Think You Can Dance.
