Dayan, Isa, Rains to Star in Desert Sunrise at The Lillian Theatre

By: Tristan Fuge · Jun 5, 2008  · Los Angeles

The full cast and creative team have been announced for the West Coast premiere of Misha Shulman's Desert Sunrise at The Lillian Theatre, July 10-August 9. Ellen Shipley will direct.

Desert Sunrise begins with a chance encounter between an Israeli soldier and a Palestinian shepherd seeking refuge in a desert valley, and just when it seems they have forged a bond, the Palestinian's girlfriend abruptly alters their trajectory. This production uses the region's languages, music, and dance to underscore how these two cultures are inextricably bound.

The cast will feature Oren Dayan as Tsahi, Miriam Isa as Layla, and Dominic Rains as Ismail. The creative team will include Ronda Brooks (costume design), Jenna (choreography), Matt Richter (lighting design), and David Fofi, Adam Hunter and Elephant Stageworks (set design).

Shulman is an award-winning New York based playwright/director. His other works include A Sephardic Masquerade, and In the Stomach of a Whale. Shipley is a Grammy-nominated recording artist and songwriter who has penned hits for artists as diverse as Belinda Carlisle, Faith Hill, Kim Wilde, Hanson, and N' Sync.
