Lyricist Stephen Schwartz and composer A.R. Rahman, along with writers Gurinder Chadha and Paul Berges, are developing a new musical animated feature film, Monkeys of Bollywood for DreamWorks Animation.

The movie is inspired by the Indian tale of The Ramayana and tells the story of two monkeys who become unlikely heroes in a last ditch effort to stop an ancient, thought-to-be-mythical demon from conquering the world. Talent for the project will be announced at a later date.

Schwartz received two Academy Awards for Pocahontas and one for The Prince of Egypt. He is currently represented on Broadway by Wicked. His many other musicals include Godspell, The Magic Show, Pippin, The Baker’s Wife, Rags, and Children of Eden.

Rahman received two Academy Awards and a Grammy Award for his music for Slumdog Millionaire. In addition, he has written the scores for the stage musicals Bombay Dreams and Lord of the Rings.
