Deadline has reported that Hamilton Tony winner Daveed Diggs will star in TNT's pilot Snowpiercer, a futuristic thriller drama based on Bong Joon-ho's 2013 feature film, which itself is based on the French graphic novel Le Transperceneige. Scott Derrickson (Doctor Strange) will serve as director and an executive producer on the series.

The hourlong drama pilot is a coproduction of Tomorrow Studios and Turner’s Studio T. IMDB describes Snowpiercer as follows: "The series focuses on the last survivors on the planet. They inhabit the Snowpiercer, a train that travels around the globe, which is divided into two feuding classes."

Diggs will star as Layton Well, "a prisoner barely surviving the harsh conditions in the tail end of the train. A quiet thinker who spends his days sniffing the industrial-waste-turned-drug Chronole and tending to his cage full of rats, Layton becomes a reluctant participant in a struggle that could upend life on the train."

Diggs is best known for originating the role of Marquis de Lafayette and Thomas Jefferson in the Broadway musical Hamilton, for which he earned a Tony Award. He has since appeared on Netflix’s The Get Down and ABC’s Black-ish.
