Woody Allen, Viola Davis, John Logan, Meryl Streep, et al. Receive Critics Choice Nominations

Nominations for the Critics Choice Movie Awards have been announced.

The film Hugo received 11 nominations, including for Tony Award winner John Logan for Best Adapted Screenplay, Martin Scorsese for Best Director, and Best Picture.

Other Best Picture nominees are The Artist, The Descendants, Drive, Extremely Loud & Incredibly Close, The Help, Midnight in Paris, Moneyball, The Tree of Life, and War Horse.

Best Actor nominees include George Clooney (The Descendants), Leonardo DiCaprio (J. Edgar), Jean Dujardin (The Artist), Michael Fassbender (Shame), Ryan Gosling (Drive), and Brad Pitt (Moneyball).

Best Actress nominees include Viola Davis (The Help), Elizabeth Olsen (Martha Marcy May Marlene), Meryl Streep (The Iron Lady), Tilda Swinton (We Need to Talk About Kevin), Charlize Theron (Young Adult), and Michelle Williams (My Week With Marilyn).

Best Supporting Actor contenders are Kenneth Branagh (My Week With Marilyn), Albert Brooks (Drive), Nick Nolte (Warrior), Patton Oswalt (Young Adult), Christopher Plummer (Beginners), and Andrew Serkis (Rise of the Planet of the Apes).

Competing for Best Supporting Actress are Berenice Bejo (The Artist), Jessica Chastain (The Help), Melissa McCarthy (Bridesmaids), Carey Mulligan (Shame), Octavia Spencer (The Help), and Shailene Woodley (The Descendants).

Best Acting Ensemble nominees include the casts of The Artist, Bridesmaids, The Descendants, The Help, and The Ides of March.

Among the other notable nominees are Stephen Daldry (Incredibly Loud) and Steven Spielberg (War Horse), both competing in the Best Director category; Woody Allen (Midnight in Paris) in competition for Best Original Screenplay; and the song “Hello Hello” — performed by Elton John and Lady Gaga, written by Elton John and Bernie Taupin for Gnomeo & Juliet, which is competing for Best Song.
