Theatre World Award Winner Doe Avedon Has Died

Theatre World Award winner Doe Avedon has died in Los Angeles at age 86, according to The Hollywood Reporter.


Avedon won the award for her work in the 1948 Broadway production of The Young and the Fair, which also featured Julie Harris and Mercedes McCambridge. She also starred in the 1949 Broadway production of My Name Is Aquilon, with Jean-Pierre Aumont, Arlene Francis and Phyllis Kirk and later toured with Mae West in the show.


She appeared in a handful of films and television shows in the 1950s, including The High and the Mighty and Big Town, before retiring from acting.


She was married to photographer Richard Avedon, actor Dan Matthews, and film director Don Siegel. She is survived by her longtime companion, actor Michael Lisco; her children Nowell, Anney, Kit and Jack; and her stepson Kristoffer Siegel.
