Emmy Award winner Sharon Gless is scheduled to appear at the 7:20 p.m. opening night screening of the film adaptation of Claudia Allen's play Hannah Free, which will open theatrically in Los Angeles at the Laemmle Music Hall in Beverly Hills on October 23.

The film, directed by Wendy Jo Carlton, stars Gless as a fiercely independent woman who fights to see her lesbian partner one last time in a nursing home. The cast also includes Maureen Gallagher, Taylor Miller, Kelli Strickland, Ann Hagemann, and Jacqui Jackson.

Hannah Free had its world premiere in San Francisco in June, and had its Los Angeles premiere at Outfest in July. It also received the Audience Award for Best Feature at the Philadelphia QFest in July. It is playing in dozens of cities around the world this fall.

Gless' stage credits include Cahoots, Watch on the Rhine, Misery, and Chapter Two. She is best known for her film and television work, which includes Cagney & Lacey, The Trials of Rosie O'Neill, House Calls, Switch, Queer as Folk, and Burn Notice. As previously announced, she will star in the world premiere of Jane Prowse's A Round-Heeled Woman at San Francisco's Z Space, January 5-February 7, 2010.
