William Hurt to Star in Telepic About 1986 Space Shuttle Challenger Explosion

Academy Award winner and stage veteran William Hurt will star as physicist Richard Feynman in the BBC and Science Channel’s as-yet-untitled telepic about the 1986 explosion of the space shuttle Challenger, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Based on facts, the drama will chronicle Feynman’s probe into the disaster.

Hurt won a Theatre World Award in 1978 and received a Tony Award nomination for Hurlyburly. His other theater credits include Artists Repertory Theatre productions of The Drawer Boy, Long Day’s Journey Into Night, and No Man’s Land. The actor won the Academy Award for Kiss of the Spider Woman and was also nominated for Children of a Lesser God, Broadcast News, and A History of Violence.
