Tom Hardy will reprise his starring role in the film adaptation of Brett C. Leonard’s play, The Long Red Road, according to Variety. The actor appeared in the Goodman Theater‘s world premiere production of the work in 2010.

Hardy plays Sam, a man trying to forget his role in a tragic accident. Stage and screen star Michael Shannon is also attached to the picture as Sam’s older brother.

In addition to his previous work on the stage production of this play, Hardy received an Olivier Award nomination and a London Evening Standard Theatre Award for his role in All Be Kings. His film credits include Wuthering Heights, RocknRolla, and Bronson. He is probably most recognizable for the playing lead villain Bane in this summer’s blockbuster hit, The Dark Knight Rises.

Shannon will be co-starring in the upcoming Broadway production of Craig Wright’s Grace, beginning performances this September. He received a Drama Desk nomination for his work in Mistakes Were Made and recently starred Off-Broadway in Uncle Vanya. TV and film credits include Take Shelter, Boardwalk Empire, and Bug (in which he reprised his stage role).
