Danny DeVito and Judd Hirsch, the Emmy Award-winning costars of the landmark television series Taxi, will reunite at Center Theatre Group’s Ahmanson Theatre in Los Angeles for a production of Neil Simon’s 1972 comedy The Sunshine Boys. Directed by Thea Sharrock (Equus), the production will open the company’s season and is scheduled to run from September 24-November 3. The official opening is set for October 2.

DeVito made his West End debut in The Sunshine Boys in 2012 where he costarred alongside the late Olivier Award-winning actor Richard Griffiths. He is now joined by Hirsch, who has appeared in a number of Broadway productions including I’m Not Rappaport (both the original 1985 production and the 2002 revival) and Sixteen Wounded in 2004.

The Sunshine Boys follows Al Lewis and Willie Clark, better known as the retired vaudevilliam team, “Lewis and Clark,” who have not spoken since breaking up their act. They have now been invited to participate in a CBS special on the history of comedy, and it proves difficult to get the two to agree to the reunion.

Additional casting will be announced in the coming weeks.
