The Pasadena Playhouse will present two special events in conjunction with its production of Crowns. A co-production with Ebony Repertory Theatre, the show runs at the Nate Holden Performing Arts Center through June 14, and will come to the Pasadena Playhouse, July 10-August 23.

Regina Taylor's musical is adapted from the book by Michael Cunningham and Craig Marberry and directed by Israel Hicks. It explores the lives of the "hat queens," six women in the South whose stories of love, loss, identity and sisterhood are woven into the hats that crown their heads and the songs that speak their truth.

On June 14, at 2 pm, fine artist/author Synthia Saint James will talk about her love affair with art, and give a private tour of her exhibition in the Friendship Center. Saint James was commissioned to create a painting for merchandising for Crowns, and her exhibition, entitled In Celebration of CROWNS, runs through August 16. She will be welcomed by NBC4 Anchor/Reporter Beverly White.

On June 20, at 6 pm, Taylor will talk about her celebrated acting career and passion for writing for the stage. The event will be moderated by writer/director/actress Iona Morris.
