About Productions will celebrate the songbook of Grammy Award winners David Hidalgo and Louie Perez of Los Lobos in the new multimedia play with music Evangeline, the Queen of Make-Believe, to run May 3-27 at Bootleg Theater.

Written by Theresa Chavez, Perez, and Rose Portillo, and directed by Chavez and Portillo, the show centers on a journey of self-discovery by Evangeline, a young Chicana, set against the backdrop of the fight for equal education and civil rights in late-1960’s Los Angeles. The play takes its title from the group’s 1985 song “Evangeline.”

The production will star Catherine Lidstone as Evangeline, Karen Anzoategui, Danielle Barbosa, Daniel Chacón, Jorge Diaz, Gina Gomez, Georgia Reed, and Denisse Schwartz. A live band featuring the vocalist CAVA will play the score.

The creative team includes Scott Rodarte (musical director) and Claudio Rocha (video design).
