TV Land to Air AFI Life Achievement Award Honoring Morgan Freeman Special June 26

TV Land will air the special program, TV Land Presents: The AFI Life Achievement Award Honoring Morgan Freeman on Sunday, June 26. As previously reported, film star and Broadway veteran Morgan Freeman is this year’s recipient of the American Film Institute’s 39th AFI Life Achievement Award.

The award will be presented at a gala celebration on the historic Sony Lot in Culver City on June 9. The stage will be transformed into an elegant ballroom to honor Freeman’s storied career. Proceeds from the AFI Life Achievement Award Gala directly support the Institute’s national educational programs and the preservation of American film history.

Freeman last appeared on Broadway in The Country Girl. He earned a Tony Award nomination in 1978 for The Mighty Gents and his other Broadway credits include Purlie and The Gospel at Colonus. He received an Oscar for Million Dollar Baby, with other film credits including Driving Miss Daisy, Invictus, Glory, Unforgiven, The Shawshank Redemption, Se7en, and Amistad, as well as Batman Begins and its sequel, The Dark Knight.
