American Idiot, Julie Andrews, Michael Buble, Fantasia, Usher, et al. Win 2011 Grammy Awards

The original cast recording of American Idiot, produced by Green Day’s Billie Joe Armstrong, has won the Grammy Award for Best Musical Show Album. The Grammy Awards were held on February 13 in Los Angeles.

Lady Antebellum was the evening’s big winner, with five Grammys including Record of the Year and Song of the Year. In addition, Julie Andrews and her daughter, Emma Walton Hamilton won Best Children’s Spoken Word for Julie Andrews’ Collection of Poems, Songs and Lullabies. Tony Award winner Dee Dee Bridgewater won Best Jazz Album for Eleanora Fagan (1915-1959): To Billie With Love From Dee Dee.

Randy Newman won for Score Soundtrack Album for his music for the movie Toy Story 3; Lewis Black won Best Comedy Album for Stark Raving Black; The Daily Show With Jon Stewart Presents Earth (The Audiobook), featuring Sigourney Weaver, won Best Spoken Word Album; and Michael Buble won Best Traditional Pop Album for Crazy Love.

Stage veterans Fantasia won Female R&B Vocal Performance for “Bittersweet” and Usher won Best Make R&B Vocal Male Performance for “There Goes My Baby.” and Best Contemporary R&B Album for Raymond Vs. Raymond.
Jay-Z, who produced the musical Fela won three awards in the Rap category, including two for the song “Empire State of Mind.”

Other winners included Sir Paul McCartney, Lady Gaga, Bruno Mars, Eminem, Arcade Fire, Cee Lo Green, Sade, John Legend, Rihanna, Train, Keith Urban, Miranda Lambert, Herbie Hancock, Patty Griffin, Neil Young, Muse, Esperenza Spaulding, The Black Keys, Spanish Harlem Orchestra, Jeff Beck, Buddy Guy, Tia Carrere, Bela Felck, Pete Seeger, Ryan Bingham, T-Bone Burnett, and Cecila Bartoli.
