Claire Danes, Anne Hathaway, Julianne Moore, Alec Baldwin Sweep the SAG Awards

Stage veterans took home the top prizes at last night’s 19th Annual Screen Actors Guild Awards in Los Angeles.

Many of our stage favorites were honored last night for also being awesome at acting in movies and on television. We always knew they could do anything!

Outstanding performance awards went to Claire Danes (Pygmalion) for Homeland, Anne Hathaway (Twelfth Night) for Les Miserables, Julianne Moore (The Vertical Hour) for Game Change, and Tony nominee Alec Baldwin (upcoming Orphans) for 30 Rock‘s final season.

Argo was the winner of the best ensemble in a motion picture. The film features four-time Tony nominee Victor Garber (Present Laughter), John Goodman (Waiting for Godot), Tate Donovan (Medieval Play), Tony Award winner Alan Arkin (Taller Than a Dwarf), Kerry Bishé (who starred in Pygmalion with Claire Danes), and Christopher Denham (Lieutenant of Inishmore).

The best ensemble of a television drama award went to Downton Abbey. Its theatrically-inclined cast includes the legendary Maggie Smith (Lettice and Lovage), Hugh Bonneville (Two Gentlemen of Verona), Laura Carmichael (Uncle Vanya), Dan Stevens (The Heiress), Michelle Dockery (Pygmalion), Elizabeth McGovern (Complicit), Amy Nuttall (Cabaret), and Penelope Wilton (The Norman Conquests).

Outstanding performance by an ensemble in a comedy series went to Modern Family, which features Ty Burrell (Show People), Sarah Hyland (Grey Gardens), and Jesse Tyler Ferguson (Spelling Bee).

Tina Fey, who has never been on Broadway, also won an award for portraying Liz Lemon in 30 Rock. We felt the need to give Fey a shoutout for creating a show that employed many theater veterans over the past seven years, including Tony Award winners Jane Krakowski, Elaine Stritch, Cheyenne Jackson, John Slattery, Nathan Lane, Paul Giamatti, Cristin Milioti, Nina Arianda, Julia Murney, and every other theater person ever.
