The La Jolla Playhouse has announced five of the six productions that will be part of its 2010-2011 season, with specific dates and additional details to be announced later.

The world premiere of Annie Weisman’s Surf Report focuses on a woman who is trying to balance her demanding career and husband just as her estranged daughter returns for a family emergency. The summer months will also see a staging of A Midsummer Night’s Dream, directed by Christopher Ashley.

In the fall, Tony Award winner Jefferson Mays will star in A Gentleman’s Guide to Love and Murder. This new musical, with book and lyrics by Robert L. Freedman and music and lyrics by Steven Lutvak, explores the manners and mores of the Edwardian era. Darko Tresjnak will direct the production.

The season will be rounded out by Robert Woodruff and Bill Camp’s adaptation of Dostoevsky’s Notes from Underground, Lynn Nottage’s Ruined and a second musical that will be announced shortly.
