 | | Helena Blackman | Helena Blackman will star in the first UK revival of Stephen Sondheim's Saturday Night, to be presented by Primavera at the Jermyn Street Theatre, February 10-March 14. Tom Littler will direct, with musical direction by Tom Attwood.
Featuring music and lyrics by Sondheim and a book by Julius J. Epstein (based on the play Front Porch in Flatbush that he wrote with Philip G. Epstein), the musical is set in 1929, and tells the story of a girl from Brooklyn who passes herself off as a glamorous Southern Belle at high society balls, and meets a handsome young Wall Street clerk attempting something similar. This production will include the UK premiere of two songs written by Sondheim when he revised Saturday Night in 1999: "Montana Chem" and "Delighted, I'm Sure."
The cast will also include Joanna Hickman, Charlie Cameron, Joanna Hollister,
and actor-musicians David Botham, Lee Drage, Lloyd Gorman, David Osmond, Nick
Trumble and Harry Waller. Additional casting will be announced at a later date.
The creative team will include Will Reynolds (set and lighting), Gary Trow (sound), and Victoria Johnstone (costumes).
Blackman, who will play Helen, was a runner up in the BBC's How Do You Solve a Problem Like Maria, and received a TMA Award nomination for playing Nellie Forbush in the tour of South Pacific.
