Jonny Lee Miller and Benedict Cumberbatch will star in Nick Dear’s adaptation of Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein, which will begin performances at the National Theatre in February, according to Whatsonstage.com. As previously reported, Danny Boyle will direct the production.

Cumberbatch and Miller will alternate playing the roles of scientist Victor Frankenstein and his monster in this version which tells the story from the latter’s perspective.

Miller appeared on Broadway last season in After Miss Julie. Other stage credits include Beautiful Thing and The Play What I Wrote. He has previously collaborated with Boyle on the film Trainspotting. Among his other movie credits are Eli Stone, The Flying Scotsman, Mansfield Park, Prime Suspect 3, Byron, and Emma.

Cumberbatch was seen earlier this year at the National in After the Dance, and has been longlisted an Evening Standard Award for his performance in that show. On television, he starred in the title role in the BBC’s Sherlock series.
