Robert Lindsay, Joanna Lumley to Star in Trevor Nunn-Directed The Lion in Winter

Robert Lindsay will star as King Henry II and Joanna Lumley will play Eleanor of Aquitaine in James Goldman’s The Lion in Winter, to run November 4-January 28 at the Theatre Royal Haymarket. Trevor Nunn will direct the production. Additional casting will be announced shortly.

The play focuses Henry and Eleanor and their three sons as they attempt to spend the Christmas season together, along with Henry’s mistress Princess Alais, and Eleanor’s brother, the young King Philip of France.

Lindsay’s credits include his Tony Award-winning performance in Me and My Girl, as well as Oliver!, Richard III, Becket, Hamlet, Power, The Entertainer, and Onassis.

Lumley was recently seen on Broadway and in the West End in La Bete. Her other stage credits include The Cherry Orchard, Noël and Gertie, and Blithe Spirit. She is best known for her portrayal of Patsy Stone on the award-winning BBC television series, Absolutely Fabulous.
