Sierra Boggess, Derek Jacobi, Bill T. Jones, Elena Roger, Mark Rylance, et al. Among 2011 Olivier Award Nominees

The nominations for the 2011 Laurence Olivier Awards have been announced, according to a report on Whatsonstage.com. The prizes will be presented in a ceremony to be held on March 13 at the Theatre Royal Drury Lane.

Andrew Lloyd Webber’s Love Never Dies, a sequel to The Phantom of the Opera, has received seven nominations, including one for Best New Musical. Performers Sierra Boggess, Ramin Karimaloo, and Summer Strallen have also received nominations for their work in the show, and Bob Crowley received nominations for both his scenic and costume designs for the show.

Also nominated as Best New Musical is Fela!, which has picked up a trio of awards, including one for lead performer Sahr Ngaujah and one for choreographer Bill T. Jones. The other shows nominated as Best New Musical are Legally Blonde – The Musical, which has gotten a total of five nominations, including one for Jerry Mitchell for choreography and for one actress Sheridan Smith, and Love Story, which has a total of three nominations, including one for actress Emma Williams.

In dramatic categories, Bruce Norris’ Clybourne Park, has picked up a nominations for Best New Play, along with Peter Quilter’s End of the Rainbow, Roy Williams’ Sucker Punch, Douglas Carter Beane’s The Little Dog Laughed, and Nina Raine’s Tribes. Both Sophie Thompson and Sarah Goldberg have been nominated for their performances in Clybourne Park and Dominic Cooke has been nominated as Best Director for his work on the show.

Among the other actor nominees are Derak Jacobi for King Lear, Elena Roger for Passion, Mark Rylance for La Bete, along with Roger Allam, Tracie Bennett, Josefina Gabrielle, Tamsin Greig, Jill Halfpenny, Derek Jacobi, Rory Kinnear, David Suchet, and Michael Xavier.

Additional nominated directors include Howard Davies, Michael Grandage, and Thea Sharrock.
