The Color Purple Cast Album Wins 2017 Grammy Award

The Broadway Records album of the Tony-winning revival takes home the Best Musical Theater Album honor.

The Broadway Records cast album of the Tony-winning revival of The Color Purple has been named winner of the 2017 Best Musical Theater Album Grammy Award. Principal soloists Cynthia Erivo (who won a 2016 Tony Award for her performance as Celie), Jennifer Hudson (as Shug), and Danielle Brooks (as Sofia) take home the prize along with producers Stephen Bray, Van Dean, Frank Filipetti, Roy Furman, Scott Sanders, and Jhett Tolentino, and the composer-lyricist team of Bray, Brenda Russell, and Allee Willis. The complete list of Grammy-nominated performers and composers nominated for the award are as follows:

The full ceremony will take place tonight at the Staples Center in Los Angeles and can be seen live on CBS at 8pm EST.
