UK Tour of War Horse to Launch in Plymouth

The National Theatre has announced details for its upcoming production of the hit play War Horse, which will launch at the Theatre Royal, Plymouth on September 27, and continue through 2013, according to Whatsonstage.com.

Nick Stafford’s adaptation of Michael Morpurgo’s book, which currently runs at the New London Theatre, focuses on Albert, a young man who joins the army during World War I in order to find, Joey, his beloved horse, who has been sold to the cavalry and shipped to France.

The show has won numerous awards in England and in America, including the Tony Award for Best Play.

Marianne Elliott and Tom Morris have directed the production, which is designed by Rae Smith, with puppet design and fabrication by Basil Jones and Adrian Kohler for Handspring Puppet Company, lighting by Paule Constable, and movement and horse choreography by Toby Sedgwick. The puppetry directors are Basil Jones and Adrian Kohler, and the show also features video design by Leo Warner and Mark Grimmer, music by Adrian Sutton, and sound by Christopher Shutt.

The tour will also play the Birmingham Hippodrome; The Lowry in Salford Quays, the Festival Theatre, Edinburgh; The Mayflower Theatre, Southampton; Bord Gáis Energy Theatre, Dublin, Sunderland Empire; the Alhambra Theatre, Bradford and the Wales Millennium Centre, Cardiff.
