Pet Shop Boys to Pen Songs for Young Vic's My Dad's a Birdman

By Brian Scott Lipton • Sep 17, 2010 • London
Neil Tennant and Chris Lowe -- better known as the Pet Shop Boys -- are writing songs for David Almond's new children's play My Dad's a Birdman, which premieres at the Young Vic, November 25-January 1, according to Whatsonstage.com. The production will be directed by Oliver Mears.

The play focuses on a father and daughter duo who've been building a nest in preparation for the Great Human Bird Competition. Almond is best known as the author of the books Skellig and Kit's Wilderness, which won the Hans Christian Andersen Medal.

The Pet Shop Boys have sold over 50 million albums worldwide. They have also written the score for Closer to Heaven and composed music for the new ballet, The Most Incredible Thing, which will be directed and choreographed by Javier de Frutos, and which is set to premiere at Sadler's Wells in March 2011.
