Tony Award winner Betty Buckley will play the Countess Aurelia in the UK premiere of Jerry Herman’s musical Dear World, to run February 4-March 30, 2013 at the Charing Cross Theatre. Gillian Lynne will direct the production.

The show, which had a brief Broadway run in 1969 starring Angela Lansbury, was adapted by Jerome Lawrence and Robert E. Lee from the play The Madwoman of Chaillot. It features such songs as “I Don’t Want to Know,” “Each Tomorrow Morning,” “Kiss Her Now,” and “And I Was Beautiful.”

Additional casting for the production will be announced in the future. The creative team will include Matt Kinley (scenic design), Ann Hould-Ward (costume design), Mike Robertson (lighting design), Sarah Travis (orchestrations), and Kevin Amos (musical director).

Buckley won a Tony Award for her performance in Cats. Her many other Broadway credits include Sunset Boulevard, 1776, Triumph of Love and Pippin. Her newest CD, Ah Men: The Boys of Broadway, will be released on August 28.
