London’s Cadogan Hall will host A Swell Party, a concert celebration of the life and work of Cole Porter, August 6-9, followed later in the month by Glorious Gershwin, four one-off concerts of the music of George and Ira Gershwin, as well as such contemporaries as Irving Berlin, Richard Rodgers, and Kurt Weill.

Written by John Kane and first staged at West End’s Vaudeville Theatre in 1991, A Swell Party recreates the spirit of the famed songwriter through classic songs like “I Get A Kick Out of You,” “I’ve Got You Under My Skin,” and “Night and Day.” The cast will include Daniel Evans, Maria Friedman, Simon Green (as Cole Porter), Graham Bickley, and Mary Carewe. David Firman and Jason Carr direct the music from two pianos.

The Gershwin concerts will feature Willard White, well known for playing the role of Porgy in Gershwin’s Porgy and Bess, on August 13; the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra performing “Rhapsody in Blue” on August 14; and Broadway and West End star Kim Criswell and the BBC Big Band on August 22 and 23.
