The Salisbury International Arts Festival has announced its line-up of theatre, dance, circus, film, music and spoken word to be presented in locations around the historic city, May 20-June 4.

Among the highlights is Alex Jennings starring as Alan Bennett in Hymn (Salisbury Playhouse, May 29), commissioned by the Medici Quartet from composer George Fenton and writer Bennett. It is a meditative piece in which Bennett observes the role of music in his childhood, his father’s doomed attempts to teach him the violin, and what hymns mean to him now.

Dominic Dromgoole directs Shakespeare’s Globe Theatre’s production of Hamlet (Trafalgar Park, May 27 and 28). The company will also present As You Like It at Wardour Castle (May 31-June 2).

Additional presentations will include work from the companies Circa, Idle Motion, Illyria, Lone Twin Theatre Company, Lyngo Theatre, Puppetcraft, Voalà and more.
