Alfie Boe will assume the role of Jean Valjean in the West End production of Les Miserables, running at the Queen’s Theatre, on June 23, according to a report on Whatsonstage.com. He will continue with the show through November 26. Also joining the cast on June 23 are Matt Lucas, playing Thenardier, and Hadley Fraser, as Javert.

Based on Victor Hugo’s classic novel of the same name, the show features music by Claude-Michel Schönberg and lyrics by Herbert Kretzmer. The production recently celebrated its 25th anniversary with a concert at London’s 02 Arena in which Boe played Valjean. Among the tenor’s other credits are Baz Luhrmann’s La Boheme on Broadway and on tour, and Kismet at the English National Opera, starring opposite Michael Ball.

Les Miserables has been directed by Trevor Nunn, with John Caird, and designed by John Napier.
