Tommy Tune to Join Houston Grand Opera’s Show Boat

Houston Grand Opera has announced that Broadway’s Tommy Tune as well as Houston socialite Lynn Wyatt will join the cast of the upcoming production of Show Boat, January 18-February 9 at Wortham Center. Francesca Zambello will direct.

Featuring music by Jerome Kern and a book and lyrics by Oscar Hammerstein II, Show Boat focuses on life on board a Mississippi river boat.

In addition to Tune and Wyatt as Cap’n Andy Hawks and the Lady on the Levee, respectively, the cast will feature Sasha Cooke (Magnolia Hawks), Joseph Kaiser (Gaylord Ravenal), Melody Moore (Julie La Verne), Morris Robinson (Joe), Marietta Simpson (Queenie), and Cheryl Parrish (Parthy Ann Hawks).

The design team will include Peter Davison (set design), Paul Tazewell (costume design), Mark McCullough (lighting design), and Michelle Lynch (choreographer).

Tune has won nine Tony Awards as well as The National Medal of Arts and a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. Wyatt is a philanthropist and style icon who is a third-generation Texan.
