Marcia Milgrom Dodge, Frank Galati, Mark Jacoby, et al. Receive Carbonell Award Nominations

The nominations for the 35th annual Carbonell Awards have been announced, according to a report in The Miami Herald. The prizes will be presented in a ceremony to be held on April 4 at 7:30pm in the Amaturo Theater at the Broward Center for the Performing Arts.

Among the nominees is Mark Jacoby, who has been nominated in the Best Actor (Musical) category for his work in La Cage Aux Folles at the Maltz Jupiter Theatre. The production has also been nominated for director Mark Martino and Best Production. The other nominated musicals are the Maltz Jupiter Theatre’s production of Academy, as well as Broward Stage Door’s The Drowsy Chaperone, Stage Door’s Mack and Mabel, and Actors Playhouse’s Miss Saigon, which have picked up nominations for directors Dan Kelley, Michael Leeds, and David Arisco, for their respective stagings of the musicals.

The Best Director (Musical) category is rounded out by Marcia Milgrom Dodge, who has received a nomination for her staging of Anything Goesat the Maltz Jupiter.

Among the other performers nominated in musical categories are Irene Adian, Mara Gabrielle, Tari Kelly, Laura Oldham, Herman Sebek, Bret Shuford, Shane R. Tanner, and E.J. Zimmerman.

The nominees for Best New Work are Christopher Demos-Brown’s When the Sun Shone Brighter, Sue Fabisch’s Motherhood the Musical, Karen Hartman’s Goldie, Max & Milk, and Michael McKeever’s Unreasonable Doubt.

Performers who have been nominated for their work in plays include Erin Joy Schmidt, doubly nominated in Best Actress (Play) category, as well as are Barbara Bradshaw, Deth Dixon, Dennis Creaghan, Todd Allen Durkin, David Hemphill, Karen Stephens, Ricky Waugh, and Gregg Weiner.

In addition, Joseph Adler has received two nominations in the Best Director (Play) category for his work on Fifty Words and Blasted, both at GableStage. The category is rounded out by Frank Galati for Twelve Angry Men at Maltz Jupiter, William Hayes for American Buffalo at Palm Beach Dramaworks, and Margaret M. Ledford for Collected Stories at the Mosaic Theatre.
