Laurence Fishburne, Lauren Molina, Nicholas Rodriguez, Tommy Tune, et al. Win Helen Hayes Awards

The winners of the 2011 Helen Hayes Awards have been announced. The prizes were presented in a ceremony held at the Warner Theatre on Monday, April 25.

Arena Stage’s revival of Oklahoma! and Shakespeare Theatre Company’s Candide tied for the award for Outstanding Resident Musical, while Nicholas Rodriguez and Geoff Packard tied in the Outstanding Lead Actor, Resident Musical category for their respective performances in Oklahoma! and Candide.

Other prizes awarded to Candide include ones for Mary Zimmerman, who won Outstanding Director, Resident Musical, Lauren Molina, who received the Outstanding Lead Actress, Resident Musical award, and Hollis Resnik, who received the award for Supporting Actress.

In dramatic categories, Woolly Mammoth Theatre Company’s production of Bruce Norris’ Clybourne Park and the Folger Theater’s revival of Hamlet tied for Outstanding Resident Play.

The bio-drama Thurgood was named Outstanding Non-Resident Production and earned the Outstanding Lead Actor, Non Resident Production Award for star Laurence Fishburne. In addition, David Ives’ The Liar received the Charles MacArthur Award for Outstanding New Play or Musical.

Among the other winners are performers Collin K. Bills, Louis Butelli, Ed Dixon, Graham Hamilton, Naomi Jacobson, Josh Lamon, Johnny Ramey, Erika Rose, and Caroline Sheen.

The ceremony also featured the presentation of The Helen Hayes Tribute to director/choreographer Tommy Tune.
