Lyric Stage to Present Kismet in Concert with 40-piece Orchestra

Lyric Stage will be presenting a fully staged concert performance of Kismet, featuring the full 40-piece Lyric Stage Orchestra. Performances will be held in the Irving Arts Center’s Carpenter Performance Hall, January 26-29. Len Pfluger will direct, with musical direction by Jay Dias.

In the musical, The Poet assumes the disguise of Hajj the beggar and manages to escape the clutches of a vengeful bandit, catch the eye of the Wazir’s voluptuous wife, serve as Emir of Baghdad and see his daughter wed to the handsome Caliph.

The show features a book by Charles Lederer and Luther Davis based on the play by Edward Knoblock, music by George Forrest and Robert Wright and Alexander Borodin with lyrics by George Forrest and Robert Wright. The score is adapted from the melodies of Alexander Borodin.

The cast will include Jonathan Bragg (Caliph), Christopher Carl (The Poet), Cecily Ellis-Bills (Marsinah), Brian Mathis (Wazir) and Margaret Shafer (Lalume).
