Broadway performer Bryan Batt (Beauty and the Beast, Seussical, Saturday Night Fever) will host "Gimme a Break III," the Transport Group's annual gala, on Monday, October 27 at the Culture Project (45 Bleecker Street). All proceeds from the event will go toward Transport Group's production of the Leslie Becker-Michael Hunsacker musical Fetching Water, set to open in April 2004.

At the gala, more than 20 theater luminaries will perform the songs that first brought them to the attention of theater audiences. Among those scheduled to appear are Andrea Burns, Danny Burstein, Liz Callaway, Lewis Cleale, Mary Bond Davis, Taina Elg, Peggy Gordon, Jennifer Gambatese, Chester Gregory, Jackie Hoffman, Celia Keenan-Bolger, Michael John LaChiusa, Rebecca Luker, Aja Maria, Matt Morrison, Marni Nixon, Peter Scolari, Tommy Tune, and Barbara Walsh.

The event will begin at 7:30pm and will be followed by a wine, champagne, and gourmet dessert reception. Tickets range from $75-$1000 for singles and $140-$1500 for couples. For more information or to purchase tickets, phone 212-560-4372 or visit the website www.Transport-Group.org.

Girl Crazy
City Center Encores! production of the classic George and Ira Gershwin is pleasingly zany, but lacks a little heart.
