Featuring music and lyrics by Christopher Smith and book by Arthur Giron and Smith, the show is based on the life of John Newton, the former slave trader who wrote the world's most recognized hymn. Benoit-Swan Pouffer will choreograph the production, which will feature music supervision by Kimberly Grigsby.

Barre's credits include the Off-Broadway musical productions of The Wild Party and Summer of '42, as well as Stand By Your Man at Goodspeed.
