American Blues Theater (ABT) has announced its 2012-2013 season, according to a report in The Chicago Tribune.

James Still’s Illegal Use of Hands will open the year for the company, running August 31 – September 30 at the Victory Gardens Biograph Theater. The play centers on three men in a small, down-on-its-luck town who wait out the night in the company of the high school football trophy they’ve rescued from obscurity. Sandy Shinner will direct the production, which will feature Steve Key, Howie Johnson and Dennis Zacek.

In addition, ABT will produce It’s A Wonderful Life: Live on State Street, running November 16 – December 30 at the Museum of Broadcast Communications. Marty Higginbotham will direct the show that’s based on Frank Capra’s film and the short story by Philip Van Doren Stern.

The company’s third offering will be Donald Margulies’ look at the relationship between an aging novelist and a promising student, Collected Stories. Mary Ann Thebus and Jessica Thebus will co-direct the piece, slated to run in spring 2013 and feature Carmen Roman and Gwendolyn Whiteside.
