Necessary Angel has announced its plans for the 2009-2010 season, which will include the world premiere of Daniel MacIvor's scary fairytale, This Is What Happens Next (April 12 - May 8). Daniel Brooks will direct the production, in which MacIvor will also perform.

The company will start the year off with a workshop staging of Michael Ondaatje's Divisadero (November 6-8), a theatrical adaptation of the writer's most recent novel, to be directed by Brooks. Graham McLaren's staging of a 110-minute version of Shakespeare's Hamlet will follow, running November 17-29. With Gord Rand in the title role, the production will also feature Benedict Campbell, Laura de Carteret, Mac Fyfe, Steven McCarthy, Christopher Morris, Tara Nicodemo, Robert Persichini, and Eric Peterson.

In addition, the theater will continue its development work. Brooks will team with John Mighton to continue their collaboration on Risk, which explores the story of Ignaz Semmelweis, an Austrian doctor whose discoveries were ignored; director Brigitte Haentjens will begin work on the English-language adaptation of her acclaimed creation Tout Comme Elle, which has been written by poet Louise Dupré and combines song and music with a rich and poetic text to explore the relationships between daughter and mother; and McLaren will collaborate with maverick Canadian poet and rising literary star Evie Christie on a modern adaptation of Racine's Andromache.
