Broadway's new musical comedy Something Rotten! at St. James Theatre has offered a first listen from its forthcoming cast recording, which will be released digitally on the Ghostlight Records label on June 2 and made available in stores July 17.

A tribute to musical theater, Something Rotten! is set in 1590s England and follows Nick and Nigel Bottom, a pair of brothers desperate to write a play, but they're stuck in the shadow of William Shakespeare. When they're told by a local soothsayer that the future of theater involves, singing, dancing, and acting at the same time, they set out to write the world's first musical.

Performances began March 26 in advance of an April 22 opening. The cast features Tony nominee Brian d'Arcy James (Shrek), Tony winner Christian Borle (Peter and the Starcatcher), Tony nominee John Cariani (Fiddler on the Roof), Heidi Blickenstaff ([title of show]), Tony nominee Brad Oscar (The Producers), Kate Reinders (Wicked), Tony nominee Brooks Ashmanskas (Martin Short: Fame Becomes Me), Peter Bartlett (Cinderella), Gerry Vichi (The Drowsy Chaperone), and Michael James Scott (The Book of Mormon).
