Audra McDonald's previously announced summer hiatus from Broadway's Shuffle Along has been shifted after the six-time Tony winner revealed her pregnancy this afternoon.

McDonald was scheduled to depart the production at the Music Box Theatre on June 20 and return on September 13. Now, her leave will begin on July 24, and she will return to the show this winter. During her hiatus, Grammy winner Rhiannon Giddens, whose solo album Tomorrow Is My Turn, recently received rave reviews, will take on the role of Lottie Gee. Shuffle Along will mark her Broadway debut.

During the same period, Savion Glover, Shuffle Along's Tony-nominated choreographer, will also step into the show, in a role as envisioned by the director and book writer, George C. Wolfe.
This production presents the landmark 1921 African-American musical Shuffle Along alongside the story of the behind-the-scenes saga that led the songwriting team of Noble Sissle and Eubie Blake and librettists F.E. Miller and Aubrey Lyles to create this groundbreaking work. George C. Wolfe directs and writes a new book for the production, which features choreography by Savion Glover.

In addition to McDonald, the Broadway cast stars Tony winners Brian Stokes Mitchell (Ragtime) and Billy Porter (Kinky Boots), as well as Tony nominees Brandon Victor Dixon (Motown the Musical), Joshua Henry (Violet), and Adrienne Warren (Bring It On).
