Stage and screen star Hugh Dancy will join the previously reported Tony Award nominee Nina Arianda in the Broadway premiere of David Ives’ Venus in Fur, which will be presented by Manhattan Theatre Club in the Samuel J. Friedman Theatre beginning October 13, with an opening slated for November 8. Tony Award winner Walter Bobbie will once again direct the production, which had its world premiere Off-Broadway at Classic Stage Company in January 2010.

In the play, Vanda (Arianda) is a preternaturally talented young actress determined to land the lead in Thomas’ (Dancy) new play based on the classic erotic novel, Venus in Fur. Her emotionally charged audition for the gifted but demanding playwright/director becomes an electrifying game of cat and mouse blurring the lines between fantasy and reality, seduction and power, love and sex.

Dancy starred in the Broadway production of Journey’s End. He was most recently seen onstage in The Pride, Off-Broadway, for which he received Lortel and Drama League Award nominations. His many films include Adam, Black Hawk Down, Ella Enchanted, The Jane Austen Book Club, and Confessions of a Shopaholic. He also received an Emmy Award nomination for his work in the HBO miniseries Elizabeth I, and can currently be seen in the second season of Showtime’s The Big C.

Arianda received a 2011 Tony nomination for her performance in Born Yesterday.
For her performance in Venus in Fur Off-Broadway, Arianda received a Theatre World Award, the Clarence Derwent Award, the Clive Barnes Award, and Drama League and Outer Critics Circle nominations.
