Karole Armitage, Sarah Benson, Diane Paulus, Steven Sater, and More Set for A.R.T.’s 2010-2011 Season

American Repertory Theater (A.R.T.) has announced creative team information for its previously reported 2010-2011 season, under the artistic direction of Diane Paulus.

Steven Bogart directs the season opener, the musical Cabaret (August 31-October 29), which stars former Dresden Doll Amanda Palmer as the Emcee. The production will feature movement by Steven Mitchell Wright; set and costume design by David Israel Reynoso; lighting design by Nicolas Vargelis; sound design by Clive Goodwin; music direction by Debra Barsha and Lance Horne; and Kit Kat Klub paintings by Rick Berry.

The American premiere of Alice vs. Wonderland (September 18-October 9), as adapted by Brendan Shea, will be directed by János Szász ,with set design by Riccardo Hernandez; costume design by David Israel Reynoso; lighting design by Daniel Maruti Evans; and sound design by Clive Goodwin.

The musical, The Blue Flower (December 1-January 8), features music, lyrics, script, and videography by Jim Bauer, with artwork, story, and videography by Ruth Bauer. Will Pomerantz will direct the production, which will feature movement by Tom Nellis; set design by Marsha Ginsberg, costume design by Carol Bailey; lighting design by Justin Townsend; and sound design by Clive Goodwin.

R. Buckminster Fuller: THE HISTORY (and Mystery) OF THE UNIVERSE (January 15-February 5), written and directed by D.W. Jacobs, will star Thomas Derrah. It will feature set and lighting design by David Lee Cuthbert; costume design by Darla Cash; projections by Jim Findlay; and sound/composition by Luis Perez.

Sophocles’ Ajax (February 12-March 12), in a new translation by Charles Connaghan, will be directed by Sarah Benson, with set and costume design by David Zinn; lighting design by Justin Townsend; and sound design by Matt Tierny.

As previously reported, Paulus will direct the new rock musical Prometheus Bound (February 25-March 25), by Tony Award and Grammy Award-winning lyricist and playwright Steven Sater with music by Grammy Award-winning composer Serj Tankian.

Paulus will also direct the American premiere of Death and the Powers: The Robots Opera (March 18-25) by Tod Machover, libretto by Robert Pinsky, and story by Robert Pinsky and Randy Weiner. The production will be conducted by Gil Rose; choreographed by Karole Armitage; and feature production design by Alex McDowell and lighting design by Donald Holder.

In addition, A.R.T. will continue its performances of The Donkey Show on Saturday nights at OBERON; and will present the 2nd annual Emerging America, the festival of theater devoted to supporting and launching the new American voices of tomorrow, in collaboration with the Huntington Theatre Company and the I.C.A., May 13-15, 2011.
