New Repertory Theatre has announced casting for its production of the musical Passing Strange, to be performed at the Arsenal Center for the Arts, May 1-22. Kate Warner will direct, with music direction by Todd C. Gordon, and choreography by Kelli Edwards.

Created by Stew (playwright/composer/lyricist) and Heidi Rodewald (composer), the show takes audiences on a pilgrimage led by a Narrator who shares his life through song. This soulful journey follows a young man from a comfortable, suburban neighborhood in Los Angeles, to the coffeehouses of an Amsterdam paradise, and finally to the riotous art houses of West Berlin, as he searches for his artistic and personal voice–what he calls “the real.”

The cast will feature Cheo Bourne (Youth), De’Lon Grant (Terry/Christopher/Hugo), Eve Kagan (Sherry/Marianna/Sudabey), Cliff Odle (Narrator), Maurice E. Parent (Franklin/Joop/Mr. Venus), Cheryl Singleton (Mother), and Kami Rusell Smith (Edwina/Renata/Desi).

The creative team will include Eric Levenson (scenic design), Gail Astrid Buckley (costume design), Karen Parsons (lighting design), and Aaron Mack (sound design).
