The American Repertory Theater will partner with Theater of War Productions, a social impact company that presents readings of ancient Greek plays to military communities as a catalyst for town hall discussions, to present two events under the title, Theater of War on February 28 and March 7.

The events will feature scenes from Sophocles’ Ajax and Philoctetes directed by Ellen McLaughlin, translated and facilitated by Theater of War founder, Bryan Doerries, and produced by Theater of War producing director, Phyllis Kaufman. Following will be panel discussions with active-duty military and veterans, their family members, and mental health professionals, concluding with a town hall discussion with the audience.

Excerpts from Philoctetes and Ajax will be presented on Monday, February 28 at 7pm, with the cast including Kaaron Briscoe, Nick Crandall, Brent Harris, Linda Powell, and Ed Walsh. Doerries will facilitate a discussion with panelists that include Walsh, along with Bill Donoghue, Imelda Fisher, and Chaplain Lieutenant Colonel promotable Ronald R. Huffman.

The same cast, along with Larry Coen and Nathan Darrow, will perform excerpts from
Ajax on Monday, March 7 at 7pm. McLaughlin will facilitate a panel that will include Donoghue, along with Lieutenant Colonel Warren Bacote, Evan Bick, and Gillian Sowden.

The Theater of War events are being presented in conjunction with A.R.T.’s current production of Ajax, directed by Sarah Benson, and running through March 15 at the Loeb Drama Center.
