Erik Ehn‘s Shape, a world premiere play about Black vaudeville and the Tulsa Race Riot, will run September 20-October 6 at the Atlas Performing Arts Center, Sprenger Theater in Washington, D.C.

Based loosely on the biographies of African-American vaudevillians Billy and Cordelia McClain, Shape concerns the life and labors of vaudevillian fairies exploited for their historical songs and dances, used by the dominant culture and abandoned at times of great need.

Shape will be under the direction of John Moletress with choreography by Ilana Faye Silverstein, sound design by Derek Knoderer, set designer by Collin Ranney, and lighting design by Ariel J. Benjamin.

The cast includes Dane Figueroa Edidi (Cordelia McClain), Frank Britton (Billy McClain), Dexter Hamlett (Survivor), Joshua Sticklin (Journalist), Karin Rosnizeck (French Journalist), Manu Kumasi (Butler), S. Lewis Feemster (Maid), Courtney Ferguson, Julia Smith, and Alex Witherow.
