F. Murray Abraham Recipient of Shakespeare Theatre Company’s Will Award

The Shakespeare Theatre Company has announced Academy Award winner F. Murray Abraham as the 2012 recipient of The William Shakespeare Award for Classical Theatre, also known as the Will Award. Abraham will receive the honor at the Harman Center for the Arts Annual Gala on October 15.

The award exists to recognize an artist who has made a significant contribution to classical theater in America.

Abraham won an Oscar for his work as Antonio Salieri in Amadeus. His other film work has included All The President’s Men, Scarface, and Finding Forrester. His most recent stage appearance was as Shylock in Theatre for a New Audience’s The Merchant of Venice. His Broadway credits include Mauritius, Triumph of Love, and A Month in the Country, among others.

The Harman Center for the Arts Annual Gala will begin with a cocktail reception followed by the Gala performance, directed by STC associate director Alan Paul, and will close with dinner and dancing.
