The Happy Time

This too-long ignored play from the 1940s celebrates the life-giving force of a teenage boy’s family. Surrounded by loving (if eccentric) parents, uncles, and grandfather, the young man’s troubles at school–and troubles at home, when an alluring vaudeville cutie is given refuge in the household–are absolved by generous hearts and zestful decisions. The Happy Time is a great family play.
