About This Show

George Bernard Shaw was a rebel. That’s why he wrote The Philanderer, a subversive comedy of ideas that slices through the elaborate rituals surrounding the sexual mores of his day. In it, “modern” men and women engage in that oldest of pursuits — each other. Try though they might to live up to their ideals of what an “equal relationship” ought to be, those vexing old-fashioned emotions impolitely intrude. Shaw turns the politics of gender into a delightful confection, permeated by incendiary ideas about men, women and sex. Directed by Penny Metropulos.
